Thanks, also had similar problem. Correct you code: it's "rpm -e --noscripts avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386" with the noscripts option with 2 minus.

Thanks a lot for the trick, I also had a similar message with a fc6 avahi package. Once the "rpm -e --noscripts" command was executed, I could update my system.
